Somebody is doing it, are you?

Firstly, let me get the obvious out of the way. The title of this blog post is inspired from the âGuinness Greatnessâ? campaign. One feature of this huge campaign is a brilliant advertisement that always makes me feel like running out of the cinema to buy myself a pint of Guinness Stout. I am not sure if the advertisements for this campaign are the same overseas, but in Malaysia the advertisement I am referring to sends a message that right âthis momentâ? somebody is going to accomplish something great and that you can too if you step up. Well at least that is the message it sends to me.
Okay fine, I am a lousy liar. The message it sends to me is that I am a weak and lonely man but if I drink Guinness Stout, Iâm going to have lots of people celebrating my greatness, toasting with a full pint of stout and patting me on the back for doing a great job so far, Iâll be launching my new yacht and that I will be able to walk on the moon. I feel the urge to do it because I know the advertisement is telling the truth, that right âthis momentâ?, someone is having a pint. Mmmmm.
Over the last few months, I have been pushing myself to try new things and open myself to new experiences. I baked my first cake (under supervision and guidance), wasted myself with brandy instead of my usual whiskey and I got myself an iPod. I told my wife Alice, it was about time we got ourselves one so that we understand what the hype is all about. I already knew everything about the physical device but I was certain that after owning one, we would be engaging ourselves in the hype and would soon understand the buzz around iPods.
I was right! There is so much to talk about; from the iTunes application all the way to the iPod accessories. I call it âside effectsâ? buzz. Simply fascinating. By owning one, by engaging myself with the iPod buzz, I can now give my 2 cents worth and share my thoughts on why other brands arenât as successful with their digital audio players. I have so many thoughts and ideas in my head all revolving around this tiny device. I can now fully appreciate how this device is going to enhance the quality of my life, music while jogging… that sort of thing. YES! People are already beginning to pat me on my back because I got myself an iPod. It is only a matter of time until I launch my yacht and my new buddy will be right by my side… plugged into my ears. Celebrating my greatness. Yeah, I can see it happening. Moon walking here I come.
Alas, this blog post is not meant to be an iPod review, plenty of other websites and blogs for that. My point is that had I not committed myself with these new experiences, I would not have been able to fully appreciate how brandy also makes me sociable (heheh, the same way whiskey does) and I have as a âside effectâ? buzz, I now have new friends who are already on my facebook profile. On a more serious note, without the iPod I would not have fully appreciated the âside effectsâ? buzz of the whole iPod hype.
The Internet, web, the oleâ W3 has got thousands of âside effectâ? buzz elements that are able to enhance your quality of life and your business. Knowing how it works or what it does for you alone is not enough. You must be in it, engage yourself in it to fully appreciate it. Get a website, a blog, join forums, create forums, pay for SEO (Search Engine Optimization), get on the social networking bandwagon… get on it, jump on it! You know why? Well because somebody (possibly your competitor) is doing it and I wonder who will be walking the moon first. Come talk to us, our guys will help you make sense of all things web.
My next project is to watch High School Musical. Donât laugh. *shudder*

Hahah…great article!
By the way, I watched HSM a while ago to see what the hype was all about. It’s pretty good! Hope that helps ;)
