The Lou Angpow Tradition

Posted on by Cayman Yong

2011 marks my first year celebrating Chinese New Year at Integricity. ;)

Every year, a tradition called lou angpow takes place here. The directors, Alex and Warren give out angpows to unmarried Integricitizens (Yes, married folks are not eligible for it! *evil laugh*). The directors insert different amounts (of cash, of course!) into the angpows, ranging from RM10 to RM100. Then, the angpows are mixed together and randomly picked by us folks.

If you asked me, according to Chinese tradition, the oldest should pick first as a sign of respect. But here, the youngest gets to pick first – that’s me! Whee!

The folks waiting to pick their angpows.

Guess who is this lucky fellow who got RM50 from one of the angpows which was filled with coins? *jealous*

No one believed Warren when he kept hinting to us that the angpow with coins is one of the highest valued angpows? I regretted for not believing his words… :(

We also had fresh lou sang with lots of jellyfish! *yums!*

Have a great and prosperous year ahead! :)
