This One Makes A Difference

World Environment Day Posters Awesome posters created for this year’s World Environment Day theme – “Melting Ice – a hot topic”

The World Environment Day was commemorated a few days ago. Many individuals and corporate companies came to the forefront to inform the public of their concerns and announced their proposed environmental activities – some only for that day, while others pledged their effort for a few months and yet others who promised continuous efforts.

Here at Integricity, though we are not a manufacturing company or have numerous factories, we still have a hand to play when it comes to recycling. To start with, several months ago, we prepared separate bins for paper, plastic, glass and more recently CDs. To quote from a website, “about 60% of trash that lands in the land fills can be recycledâ€?. That shows our ignorance, or rather, lack of effort at recycling.

With our staff taking the initiative to sort out our trash, pull out the staples from paper, remove the plastic window sheet from envelopes or collecting old post-it notes – this is becoming a common habit.

There was a story I heard years ago, about a boy walking along the beach and he was seen to be throwing stranded starfishes back to the sea. He was abruptly stopped by an old man who asked, “Little boy, don’t you think it is impossible for you to save all the starfishes from dying? Look, there are hundreds if not thousands all over the beach! Do you think it actually makes a difference?â€? The little boy stooped low, lifted up another starfish from the ground and after throwing it to the sea, said, “Well, at least with this one it does!â€?.

One post-it note will not make a difference to you. One coke can may not matter. That piece of plastic that you bought which had roti in it may well be small enough to cause some damage.

But well, like the little boy said – “with this one, it makes a differenceâ€?. A whole lot of difference. Think about it.
