Tune Money launches in Malaysia

Today, I attended the launch of Tune Money at the Sime Darby Convention Centre. The much anticipated event announced the launch of their new website, and their first range of products – insurance.

A very Red backdrop indeed… Compliments Integricity’s Red – I guess Red is in.

Chairs were decorated with their logo – a very nice touch, I must say.

Tengku Zafrul, the Tune Money CEO gave an excellent speech with the extensive use of visual media. Kudos for that. The presentation went way beyond the typical powerpoint slides that you see – what with animation and timing between slides that was flawless. Indeed, it was a rousing and engaging speech. He ended by promoting his blog – www.tengkuzafrul.com – indeed, I can see it is very much slated as a corporate blog by him, except for his blatant support of Liverpool (which gains him extra favour from Integricity – but doesn’t Air Asia support Man U? Oh well, a man can have his personal preference, I guess). Once again, 2 thumbs up for them for embracing the use of new media! (Oh, did you know that this man posted the launch as an event on Facebook? WOW! He’s connected!)

Tengku Zafrul presents his media-rich speech.

This was then followed by a speech by Dato’ Seri Kalimullah Hassan that was peppered with light-hearted comments. He mentioned that Tune Money’s products are up to 30 percent lower in premiums as compared to products currently available in the market today. Also, he mentioned that the believe in indoctrinating 30% less of everything within the company, including that of Tengku Zafrul’s salary! The statement drew laughs and applause from the audience. I must ask Tengku Zafrul about that.

“Yes, Yes… everything is 30% less – including Zafrul’s salary!”

Finally, our Finance Minister II, Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop gave his speech congratulating the team, though he did make many references to Tune Air, rather than Tune Money. I guess Tony Fernandes must have spent heaps on his branding exercise for Tune Air!

Malaysia’s Finance Minister II is indeed an extremely humourous man.

All in all, Tune Money seems slated to appeal to the once-abandoned segment of the market. As Tengku Zafrul puts it, they will seek to service all those whom traditional insurance agencies turn down. From the media pack, I gather they have personal accident insurance policies starting as low as RM45.50 per annum. WOW! Also, for motorcyclist personal accident insurance, contributions begin from RM10.90 a year. Truly, Now Everyone Can Own Insurance Policies! (which isn’t their tagline, by the way. It’s Looking After You).

Tune Money - Launch Gambit

After the lengthy speeches, the launch ensued that entailed pushing the Enter key on a dinosauric sized keyboard!

Tune Money - Website Unveiled

The launch gambit then proceeded to show the upload of the site. (All a mock of course, as you and I know!).

Well, well… after returning to my office, I accessed the website to find… I guess there’s still a little teething that needs ironing out. Overall, it seems like an extremely wonderful proposition for Malaysians. Congratulations, Tune Money.

  1. Time to call my agent and cancel my PA insurance…

Oh hang on, the site isn’t up yet :)

Wonder what technical issues are holding this up!

(But I’ll forgive them, since Tengku Zafrul’s a Liverpool fan…)

  2. Hey guys! Thanks for the splendid write-up. Alex, how did you manage to do it so quickly, huh? Anyway, I do hope you’ll bear with us. Teething problems – you know birth is not all about balloons and funny hats – there’s usually blood involved…:)

  3. Hi Guys,
I managed to get into the portal last night and website looks great! Lots of information that is very good for layman like me. I couldn’t understand financial portal in the past and what Tune Money and his team have developed truly reflects what they are preaching….Great job and they seemed to be walking the talk! I’m gonna browse thru my policies and call up my agents pretty soon to cancel my existing policies, hahaha!!!

I got my Tune Money Card last April 2008 and I face no problem using the Tune Card.

While I was away to India and Thailand, I did the transaction on purchasing as well withdrawal from the ATM machine…the bank didn’t reject it at all.

Moreover, the exchange rates Tune Money give is quite good compared using the Bank Visa Electron and service fee charge is low too. Eg. I used Tune Money RM 1 to THB 10 and PB Visa Electron RM 1 to THB 9.20. Good rate right.
